I finished LazyTown's first season today and it was a wild expierence.
With thirty-five episodes that structure around the plot, they all have a different formula. Some are captivating and some aren't like those dreaded clip shows, which didn't add any value to the season, except 'Dear Diary'. The story of this season is non-existent. There are no arcs which makes for a much better watching experience.
The characters are the brains and minds of LazyTown and they are all relatable, essentially, everyone is a part of us. This makes for a relatable season, so that whenever a character learns a lesson, WE learn that lesson. Every show does need a good role model, and Stephanie & Sportacus are the two role models of this season. They are perfect, and every boy and girl should strive to be like them! Every one has their own issues, and that's good! A character should never be perfect.
The production of the season is up and down. With re-used shots all over the place, mediocre green screens in the first few episodes, it makes them a bit dreadful to watch, but the season's editing gets better and better over time. As with the CGI shots of the airship and town, those are actually very good, but more detail is needed sometimes.
The music of the season is very mixed with different genres - pop, blues, and so much more. The music is so energetic and captivating that you have to listen to every song hundreds of times, and that's why it takes so long to watch these episodes. If Mani wasn't hired to make the music for this show it'd be horrible!
The humour of the season is definetly some of the funniest, with some of the episodes getting a 10/10 because of this. Most of the jokes are just super simple and nothing too complex so the audience can understand it, and it works out for everyone! Everyone laughs, giggles, smiles, chuckles. The show delivers you the message straight-forwardly with no filler and with tons of comedy.
Now, while this season's characters and editing had their flaws, it still makes for a very enjoyable season. Time well spent.

Sportacus
is my favourite character, but this is a clip show AND in the style of
an autobiographical documentary. So will I really even like it? Beware -
I don’t really explain most scenes good enough because they’re mostly
recycled from other episodes, so I keep it short.
The episode
begins with a new cold open (good start!) where Sportacus is riding to
town on his sky chaser. Once Stephanie sees him she puts in her letter.
Sportacus checks on what she’s doing, then she sends the letter.
Sportacus rides back to his airship to get the letter, and he does.
We
get some narration from Sportacus, who is thanking us for our letters.
Some letters that were actually sent to LazyTown Entertainment pop up on
the screen, with kids reading out their questions - and there’s a big
last group yell - ‘can I be a superhero?’ Sportacus says anyone can be a
hero, then he walks through his morning.
Here
is a recycled cold open from 'Zap It!’ that I’ll only explain as my Zap
It review was rushed. Sportacus gets out of bed and flips into a pair
of skating shoes. He grabs a hockey stick and skates over to his bed. He
throws away a cushion then arranges the blanket.
He
says that’s how you make a bed, then skates over to his cupboard,
spinning the hockey stick once more then putting it back in it’s place,
literally. He declares it breakfast time.
A
recycled cold open from 'Dear Diary’ - he slices up a banana with a
ping pong racket, falls to the ground and tries to catch all the slices
in his mouth. Still hungry, he calls for an apple but there are none
left. So he decides to have some random watermelon that was on the
floor.
Recycled
cold open from 'Dr. Rottenstein’ - he throws away the watermelon, does
some cartwheels, jumps in the air, and now he’s handstanding on the
watermelon. Then he gets off, throws it in the air and catches it doing a
power jump. He twirls it on his finger and it shatters to slices as he
drops it on the table, then he eats it.
Now,
it’s teethy cleany time the Twenty Times way! Sportacus flips onto his
aerobics bar, hangs on with his legs, and grabs his toothbrush. He jumps
off and starts brushin!
The rest of the LazyTowners are brushing too to ’Twenty Times Time’,
but that all ends when Sportacus throws the toothbrush out of his
accidentally-open door. He jumps out the airship and lands on the
sky-chaser, and from then on, it’s a mashup of 'Twenty Times Time’ &
'Get it Together’. After the whole toothbrush thingy, Sportacus wants
to play a little game with the sports spinner.
His
first exercise is jumping jacks, and he adds a little Sportatwist to it
- in the middle he starts flailing his arms around like those inflated
people you see at car shops, then he starts kicking.
Then
he just starts to fricking jump. That may just be some practice for his
second move and my favourite one - Power jumping! So, he does a bunch
of power jumps (no Sportatwists) before going on to a harder move -
soccer. A recycled cold open from Soccer Sucker. Meanwhile, the kids are
doing nothing!
They’re
probably bored because Sportacus isn’t playing with them, but Milford
tells them to do something fun like play basketball, and they all have
fun doing so. After he throws back the ball, he says that he’s now ready
for anything, then something happens. He gets a letter, and reads it.
It’s a question about why he moves so much. His answer is that he loves to move, and then he performs Get it Together.
Once the song ends, he flips over to his water bottle and puts some
water in his cup. Recycled cold open from Miss Roberta - he hits an ice
cube using a baseball bat against the walls and it lands in his glass of
water and he drinks it.
Then
he gets a letter from an unknown person asking him to teach him one-arm
pushups. This is my favourite part of the episode. So, he demonstrates
normal pushups, triceps pushups, clapping, turning, then he tries ONE
ARM!
Then
jumping then clapping behind his back! Sure enough, he accomplishes it!
Then he does his favourite - one arm, one leg. This is super cool. He
calls for paper and a pen and he draws some pictures of his favourite
pushups, and of course, a message. He sends his letter using air-mail,
but he forgot to sign his name. He runs out, but the door isn’t
activated yet, so he has to turn the knob a bit. TWICE.
Finally,
once it opens, he ties his feet to a white rope, then attaches the
piece of metal to it on the magnet of his airship’s door. He then dives
off, catches the letter, and pulls himself back up. Then he signs his
name.
Then
he throws it back out. Now it’s time for another energy boost.
Meanwhile, a recycled scene from Ziggy’s Alien - Robbie tries to sleep
but is awaken by the sound of a kid yelling for help. In this case it’s
recycled from 'New Superhero’ and Ziggy is falling. Then a recycled
scene from 'Sports candy festival’ where Sportacus’ Club Special is
consumed by Sportacus. I have complained about this so many times - but
that is a plain lettuce and tomato sandwich.
The
crystal beeps. Sportacus says before he saves someone he tries locating
the problem, which he almost never does. Liar. So, he rides into the
town and saves Ziggy with a skateboard and a comically long scarf.
The
crystal beeps again - this time a recycled rescue from the VERY FIRST
EPISODE involving Trixie being a moron, Stingy being a moron, Stingy
flying in the air, and a seesaw.
Then
a recycled rescue combining clips from both 'Sportscandy Festival’
& the beginning of 'New superhero’. Milford is carrying a cake, he’s
about to walk onto a skateboard, but with the help of a carrot, he
doesn’t. Then a recycled scene from 'Sportscandy Festival’ - Steph wants
an apple, Sportacus throws a ball at the tree, Steph has an apple.
Then Energy is performed.
Sportacus goes back to the airship using the sky-chaser. Robbie who has
been looking through his periscope pushes it back of anger, then it
comes rolling back and he makes a dive for it.
XD!
So, Sportacus flips into his bed, day turns to night, and a recycled
ending from the VERY FIRST EPISODE plays! Except this time there’s an
extra two seconds of Robbie’s pained expression after lifting his arm.
3/10
- This episode was a bit boring as it was a lazy attempt to finish the
season with recycled clips. The push-up and super spinner sequences
really saved it for me, if those scenes were absent I wouldn’t have
liked this episode AT ALL.

boy. I remember before watching every LazyTown episode TO DATE, I’d
always put this one off because it didn’t really look interesting to me.
After finishing all the episodes (and RE-finishing them which I’m 1/5
through), it’s time to watch Ziggy’s Alien again!
Recycled Zap It!
opening. Durr. Robbie is trying to take a nap. SHOCKINGLY AS IF THIS
HAS NEVER EVER HAPPENED IN THE PAST 33 EPISODES he gets disturbed. By
the kids.
Sorry
- I meant KID. As he is getting disturbed by the sound of Pixel trying
to launch his alien communication plan. An excited Ziggy runs into his
house, trips on NOTHING and his arm hits a button.
He
ends up tangled in some wires and Pixel tells him only big kids inside
(Ziggy is only two years younger then Pixel, SMH..) the house. So Pixel
tells him to play outside, and he stuffs that up - Stingy is on a
ladder, setting up an antenna when ZIGGY BUMPS INTO IT and he falls
down.
Robbie’s
happy about this, until he starts yelling for help, much to his
annoyance. Then Sportacus saves him, much to his anger. But it seems the
ladder has fell on Stephanie and Ziggy.
Sportacus
saves them too and asks what they were doing. They explain everything
to him, say bye, and tell Ziggy that he can’t join their club because he
would crash the rocket. Stephanie feels bad, but Stingy is all for it.
He says that if he saw an actual alien, he’d have a panic attack and not
talk for a week. Robbie’s listening.
Robbie
has the idea to dress up as a space alien and scare Ziggy so he shuts
up but for that plan to work REALLY well, it’d have to work forever, so
he’d have to dress up as an alien once a week. He takes no notice of
this and dresses up in an alien costume that looks NOTHING like an
alien.
So, anyways, Ziggy starts the cake and candy club, but nobody will join because they’re too busy singing Galaxy.
So, Zobby (Robbie’s alien costume) comes outside of his lair to find
Ziggy and then he steps on a skateboard. Meanwhile, Stingy is
questioning if the rocket is all his, and he says he can just own the
bottom half but Steph declines. Pixel asks if they’re ready through the
walkie-talkie.
Stephanie
tells him ‘almost’, much to his annoyance, which is a bit out of
character because he’d be fine with it considering he crushes on her.
Anyways, once Steph picks up something, Zobby comes cruisin’ by and is
out of her sight once she stands up.
She
asks what that was, and Stingy tells her not to worry because it’s
probably his. If he owns a different life type, then, urhm, I’d worry..
Ziggy says that he would give away all his candy just for someone to
hang out with. In comes Zobby whose skateboard hits a wall. He is sent
front-flipping (yes, Robbie has done flips multiple times in this
season!) with a hard landing.
Zobby
introduces himself and Ziggy goes a bit crazy - but when Zobby tells
him to be quiet, he becomes quiet. Ziggy offers him candy much to
Zobby’s liking until Ziggy calls him 'buddy’, which is the opposite of
what he was aiming for. So, Ziggy goes to his house, which is DROWNED IN
CANDY.
He
tries to find a good piece of candy for his new 'buddy’, but he decides
to give him his favourite lollipop ever, which is kind of sad, really.
He’s willing to give anything to anyone he meets so they can be friends
with him when his real friends think he’s too young to do stuff with
them. So, for some reason, he decides to run up to his friends, but he
bumps into the table and equipment falls off.
Stingy
reminds him two things - he is TOO SMALL, and out of the club, but
Ziggy offers to bring them a real life-size space alien (Zobby) and
tells them to follow him. But he isn’t there. He is trying to take a nap
on a bench.
He
sure took a nap, but not on the bench! So, the kids are looking for
him, but they can’t find him.. until he gets up from under the couch and
shakes his head and starts talking about his pain, scaring Stephanie
and Stingy.
Zobby’s
scared too, yelling 'KIIIDDDSSS!!!!’. then telling them to be quiet,
and they are quiet. The kids find it a bit cool now, which starts a
tug-of-war as to whose friend it is. Zobby yells out STOP and orders
them to whisper every word. Then he starts napping. Ziggy says he must
be tired of Earth and Stephanie comes up with the idea to bring him back
HOME much to Ziggy’s sadness.
Then
he comes up with the idea to bring the alien home HIMSELF but Stingy
keeps on saying he is too little and he’d crash, yada yada. He storms
off, and Stingy says some people can be too possessive and STEPHANIE
AGREES. Maybe it’d be funnier if the irony hit hard? Maybe Stingy could
claim something a few seconds AFTER he said that. Sportacus’ crystal
beeps.
He
rides into town. Meanwhile, the kids are literally just carrying Zobby
in a wheelbarrow and they bump his head on the ice-cream stand, but he’s
too tired to wake up. Ziggy is sulking about how he isn’t too young to
fly a rocket and how Zobby’s HIS friend. Sportacus flips over to his
window and asks what’s wrong.
Ziggy
tells him everything and how he’s too little but Sportacus says you’re
never too little to help someone out. Then he goes back to the ship. The
kids are trying to figure out where to send Zobby as he said he was
from 'Junkiter’ and no planet exists. They decide to pick a pretty green
one.
Pixel
checks everything is where it’s supposed to be, and he presses the red
button, meaning that the rocket’ll go in ten seconds. Stingy notices
that Ziggy’s in there. The 60 thousand KG worth of metal drops on the
seesaw and they’re launching.
Stingy
is sad he will never see him again then asks for his candy. I get that
was supposed to be funny but it isn’t. Ziggy could be in potential
danger. The rocket flies past Sportacus’ airship and Sportacus sees
them. Zobby’s had enough and falls out of the rocket, holding onto a
wing.
Then
Sportacus JUMPS OUT THE SHIP and lands on the rocket. Ziggy asks
Sportacus to save Zobby and he mishears it as 'Zombie’.. XD. So, he
tries to walk to the back of the rocket but with the air and everything
it’s a bit hard. It’s also hard because Zobby keeps missing Sportacus’
hand. But he is pulled back in!
Then
Sportacus sits on Zobby (you can tell by the 'ow!!’ sound, XD)’s face,
presumably. Sportacus tells Ziggy to ride the rocket, but Ziggy says he
is too small. Sportacus reminds him what he said, and luckily, they make
it back to LazyTown safely.
Sportacus
tries to pull Zobby out, but instead he pulls out his helmet, and the
disguise is of course, revealed, once again. And then he falls out of
the rocket after aggressively grabbing the helmet back. LOLZ.
Ziggy
is sad because he thought he had a friend. Stephanie says they’re all
his friends. Stingy agrees after a day of being a moron. Then Ziggy
silently ends racism by saying 'Big, small or alien, we can all be
friends!’. God, I love this show, such a heartwarming scene. The
background music from Mani does it as well. They perform Bing Bang.
The
episode ends with Robbie back in his robe, trying to relax, when a
bright light shines above him, and someone calls out 'Take us to your
leader’. Then he screams, abruptly cut off by the ending credits.
So simple, and so funny. It’s the scream that’s the cherry on top, really.

Dancing
Duel is the 35th out of the 36th produced episode of this season of the
show, so I am expecting a very high quality episode!
The episode
begins with a sign of low quality - the episode begins with a recycled
cold open from Play Day. But ignore that, this might be a chance for a
new, fresh episode. Milford is busy rolling up a poster of sorts when
some loud bass is heard and his water cup shakes.
He
checks Stephanie’s room and it’s just her dancing to ‘We’re Dancing’ on
like, really loud volume. Did she put it up to 101? Anyways, Steph
apologizes and tells Milford she was just dancing which is a perfect
time for Milford to tell her about the LazyTown dance competition, and
she helps him put up the posters.
Meanwhile,
Robbie is eavesdropping on.. nothing. For a change, it’s quiet in
LazyTown, and he says so to the miniature version of him. Speaking of
miniature, he has a regular size of cake, and for some reason, he has
this thingy that makes stuff bigger.
He
is satisfied with his slightly more bigger slice of cake and he puts
down miniature him and BEFORE HE TAKES A BITE INTO IT, he leans on the
dial, throws his cake away, and now there is a clone of him. ???? The
episode started three minutes ago. Anyways, they keep telling each other
they’re Robbie Rotten over and over, until the clone turns off.
He
tells him there is only room for ONE Robbie Rotten, and then he hears
Sportacandy, and turns him back on assuming he MIGHT need him. Anyways,
Ziggy launches himself over a wall with the help of a stick and lands
into a bin in an attempt to save.. a LOLLIPOP.
Does
Ziggy ever think before doing anything? Anyways, Sportacus saves him
and the kids all come to see what’s happened. Then Sportacus looks at a
poster Stephanie stuck up and she explains it to the kids.
Apparently,
if it goes well this year, they will have a dance competition every
year which is dumb because it could cause a hole in the town’s budget.
He is disgusted, proclaiming LazyTown could turn into a disco. He dances
to demonstrate!
The
jokes in this show are so funny, but so simple! Anyways, the kids try
to convince Sportacus to join the competition but he says there’s
someone better then him - Stephanie. She doubts her winning but
Sportacus says anyone who tries their best is a winner. Now she’s hooked
and decides to join.
Meanwhile,
Robbie’s annoyed because the wind-up Robbie hasn’t done anything yet
when he finally walks into sight. Then the kids say hi to him, and the
fake Robbie checks out the dance competition and says he’ll JOIN. The
real Robbie bashes his head on the periscope of anger.
Unsurprisingly,
the kids laugh at him, while he repeats 'Robbie will dance.’ He doesn’t
get a great response from Robbie who yells at him, saying that Robbie
doesn’t dance or move. Then he moves. A lot.
Then
he stops and decides to think about what to do. Meanwhile, Stephanie is
practicing her dancing against the laziest guy in town, which is kinda
pointless. But then again, anything can happen! Anyways, Robbie is
attempting to teach his clone how to 'dance’.
And,
as you can probably guess, because this is Nickelodeon JR, and comedy,
the Robbie clone does even worse for this excuse of dancing.
Robbie
is JUST so done with it. Stephanie is thinking about doing jazz twist
for her dance, but she doesn’t like that either! Pick a thing, lady!
(Fairly realistic..) Anyways, Robbie is doing MORE dance moves (jumping
in the air and shaking his chest..) much to his clone’s appeal.
Robbie
stops and tells him to try it - he does it much more faster before the
wind-up goes down, and then back on. Robbie sits on the couch of
annoyance. Then Stephanie decides to try a time step, and SHE DOESN’T
LIKE THAT!! YOU LITTLE- I didn’t really like it either, and neither did
candy boy. Then back to the lair. Again. Robbie is contemplating that it
could’ve been the music. Speaking of music, Robbie sees the music box
and a little ballerina inside it and asks Robbie to mimic her.
And
it goes well, until the wind-up runs out. And Stephanie finally decides
what she’ll do for her dance - a high kick and a split! Then the rat
called Trixie comes over and turns off the music. Then Ziggy turns it
on. Then the rat turns it off and asks what they’re doing. Stephanie
tells her she’s just practicing.
Trixie
convinces Stephanie she knows all the moves and to take a break - after
all she’s only going up against Robbie. Or is she? Robbie finally
brings the ballerina to life. It turns out she’s not very innocent - she
kicks Robbie’s clone back into the machine so that he is a little
figurine again.
Meanwhile,
Stephanie is reading comics in her socks, lying down on her bed, all
that lazy stuff. Sportacus decides to check on how she is doing with her
dancing and boy oh boy does he get a surprise - nobody in LazyTown is
outside! And that’s a chance for Ziggy to let free and dance!
Until
Trixie walks up to him and he immediately turns the song off and tells
her he was waiting for Stephanie - but Trixie tells him what he said
yesterday and Ziggy said that gets you stiffened, but Trixie says it
doesn’t matter. Anyways, Stephanie goes the rest of the day lazying and
reading comix. Living the dream..
Ziggy
is a fortune teller. Milford yells from the kitchen about breakfast and
how the competition is today. Stephanie gets up. Stiffened. And she
screams. For seven seconds straight.
She
goes to the kitchen and tells Milford that she’s stiff. She smiles when
she says 'stiff’. Weirdo. Anyways, she asks Milford to help her stretch
and he says yes. So the problem has STARTED to be resolved. Then
Sportacus’ crystal beeps.
So,
anyways, Milford & Steph are stretching when Sportacus lands in the
town. If this was realistic he’d probably land somewhere super random
in the town - but nup, he lands in RIGHT in front of them. Lucky he’s
there because Milford loses his balance.
Stephanie explains what happened in the form of a song - I Can Move
which is an updated version of an updated version of Solla Stiora.
After the song, Stephanie feels stretchy enough to dance! Luckily for
her the competition’s about to start. Back in the lair, Robbie is going
to give Rottenella a piece of cake, but she trips him.
From
the floor, he looks at her and lets out a small 'hey!’. XD. The contest
starts and everyone is watching. Rottenella is the first dancer. Robbie
takes a while to wind her up - but when he does, she is a wonderful
dancer! (Note: Milford says 'Now gimme a beat , yo!’ before the music
starts. Hilarious.) Backflips, splits and cartwheels all over the
place. Stephanie thinks she’s already lost.
Sportacus
tells her that if she doesn’t try she WILL lose. How motivating. Then
he tells her that he believes in her and that’s enough for her to go up
on stage. She’s pretty good, and Robbie thinks so too, because he tries
sabotaging her by putting ping pong balls on the stage, and she flips
over them!
He
only stops when a pissed Sportacus taps him on the back. You must
admit, angry Sportacus is very intimidating. So, thanks to bias, the
judge (Stephanie’s UNCLE) decides Stephanie is the winner, and they sing Bing Bang.
Robbie sits on the machine (where the human comes out of), sulking
about how he lost. He throws the Rotenella music box, it hits the dial,
and he’s a figurine now.
I
guess the writers really like Stefan’s voice, because even as a
figurine, he talks - yelling 'I’m Robbie Rotten and I don’t
daaaaaaaancccee!’
8/10 - Nice plot, high quality, great song, but the cuts from lair to town were getting on my nerves!!
